Therapy with Rhett
What Brings You In
Most people who find their way to therapy have been thinking about it for a while. Something has felt off in themselves, in a relationship, in the direction their life is heading. And somewhere along the way it became hard to ignore.
That's usually what brings people here. Not a crisis necessarily. Just the quiet sense that something needs to change.
At the heart of it, most people want the same thing. We want to feel loved and safe. We want to have someone bear witness to what we are carrying. And over time, to learn to steward our pain rather than be ruled by it. That's what good therapy makes possible.
My Approach
I hold graduate degrees in both divinity and marriage and family therapy, and I've spent years reading and writing at the intersection of philosophy, psychology, and theology. I practice as a therapist who draws from the best of all three traditions to understand what it means to be human and how people actually heal. My faith background informs my work, but I work with people of all backgrounds and beliefs. What matters is that you're ready to do the work.
Getting Started
Many new clients come through a direct referral and we get started without any prior conversation. If you'd prefer to talk briefly before scheduling, I offer a free 15-minute consultation. Reach out and we'll set that up.
Before your first session you'll complete a short intake form so I arrive with some context about your situation. In that first session my goal is to make sure I understand what's bringing you in, what you're hoping for, and what you need. I'll ask questions, but I also want you to feel free to share anything I'm not asking about.
The first session is as much about you getting a sense of me as it is about me getting a sense of you. What's it like to be in the room with me? How do I work? Does this feel like a place you could do real work?
Before you leave that first session you won't wonder what happens next. I'll follow up with next steps and usually some homework to get the process going, because insight without practice is just information, and I want you leaving with something concrete to work with.
Most clients know within the first session whether we're a good fit. I'll give you my honest read on what I think would help and what I'd recommend we do next.
Sessions are 55 minutes. I see clients in person in Frisco, TX — near Plano, McKinney, Prosper, The Colony, and Little Elm — and online via telehealth anywhere in Texas or Colorado.

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves...Live the questions now.
Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” — RAINER MARIA RILKE
My Areas of Expertise
Anxiety
Anxiety isn’t just a feeling. It’s a coping behavior, a response to deeper feelings that haven’t been heard yet. I help you get to the roots of your anxiety and reframe it as an opportunity to grow.

Couples and Relationships
ost couples think they’re fighting about the issue. They’re not. It’s the pattern underneath that keeps them stuck. I help couples understand what’s really driving the conflict and build a different way of being together. And if your partner won’t come, you can start on your own.

My primary framework is Restoration Therapy, founded by Dr. Terry Hargrave — a model rooted in Contextual and Intergenerational Family Therapy that focuses on love, trust, emotional regulation, and healing the patterns that keep people stuck. It's the lens through which I approach all my therapeutic work.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I'm also deeply grounded in systems theory. I draw from other models where helpful — existential therapy, narrative therapy, CBT — and use tools like EMDR and psychodrama when appropriate.

Therapy focuses on deeper exploration of underlying patterns, emotional history, and past experiences — working toward healing and restoration. Coaching focuses on present challenges and forward movement. My approach brings the best of both together — the depth to understand what's actually driving your patterns, and the practical tools to build something different.

That's okay — let's go where the energy and initiative is. One person working on themselves can change a relationship and can change an entire system they inhabit. I often tell clients: any individual therapy is marriage therapy. The degree to which you work on yourself, you change your relationships.

It depends on what you're working on. Some people come in a handful of times and get exactly what they need. Others work through something significant over six months to a year. Generally I encourage people to commit to a few months — somewhere in the range of 6 to 12 sessions. But if you're not sure, we can take it a session at a time.
