Jack Bauer on your pastoral team...
Steve McCoy has posted some Jack Bauer facts.
I have tried really, really hard to not let 24 bypass LOST as my favorite TV show, but I have to admit....24 is amazing...every week...and Jack Bauer rules. Comparing LOST and 24 is like comparing apples and oranges, since they are both so different, and I appreciate their differences. I appreciate the excitement and intensity and pace of 24, and I appreciate the mystery and characters in LOST.
I have been thinking about Jack Bauer. Sometimes I think he would be great to have on staff as your advocate. Not because I want him torturing others, but because he seems like he might be able to cut through all the red tape and committee meetings, and just get to the point. I will have to take him to my next Presbytery meeting.....of course, he can not shoot anyone in the leg to get them to talk.
If you don't watch 24...then this post means nothing to you. So go watch it.

There are times when I feel like having Jack come to shoot someone at a meeting isn't such a bad idea!

Our cable was out on Monday and I missed 24! They repeat the thing sometime during the week but I couldn't find it in the listing. Still have it Tivo'd?

OK, I admit that I am hooked on 24.
On staff, he would be cool. I think he would wipe out emergents, however. He seems pretty old school. No whinning aloud!

I have always been disturbed by Jack's approach. The "do whatever it takes' attitude makes for great television but poor detective work. I have not been following it closely recently but my stomach turned when he shot the innocent woman in the leg to get her husband to talk. It is moments like that which make me think they should subtract the ?C? in CTU.
Ethically I think it is interesting that as a hero he consistently does what is wrong in his defense of the ?greater good? and while America would be outraged if a real Jack Bauer made media headlines his fictional counterpart is one of our favorite modern heroes. I don?t know if anyone would really want to be around a person that always does it there way right or wrong regardless of the consequences.
I guess this is al to say, I enjoy 24 but I would rather Jack stay on the screen and out of my church.

As I understand it, the problem is not getting Presbyterians to talk in a committee meeting, but rather to shut up.
I think Jack Bauer ought to have a plenary indulgence to shoot in the leg any committee member who won't zip it.

The last two seasons of 24 have been terrible. Jack Bauer on the staff of any church is a frightening thought. Lost, on the other hand, is a show worth watching. If I worked at a church, I'd much rather have John Locke on staff than Bauer.
