Follow up.....

Several of you commented on my previous post regarding Zach Lind and his thoughts on Chuck Colson.

Zach Lind actually wrote a post of his own on this issue, so you can read that here.

Zach will be a conference speaker at Futuregen in Phoeniz, AZ.

I have joked with Zach a couple of times via email over television news preferences. As a Christian I appreciate his often differing political views...differing from mine that is. I have a tendency to find myself most of the time in the company of Republicans and conservatives. So I appreciate the perspective that people like Zach, and the perspective that my more liberal and democrat friends and students bring to the ministry I pastor, and to my own life.

"Why not criticize with grace, fairness, and love? Why not take Colson's theological argument about the content of hymns vs (some) choruses seriously on the merits? There are substantive arguments against Colson's position-- why not marshal them? Why resort to an uncharitable dismissal? Is this love?"

Glenn, I think Michael W. Smith might be wondering why Colson didn't practice your desired approach with the criticism of his song. Does Colson not give Smith efforts a public "uncharitable dismissal"? If my tone negates my point, then I guess Colson's tone negates his entire article. It seems to me you are criticizing me for the same things that both you and Colson do as well. Why do you have to refer to Smith's song on your blog as "cotton candy"? Is that necessary? Is that love? Why can Colson totally bad mouth this song and not hear anything from you about how he should avoid "uncharitable dismissal". Is this love? I don't know Glen, you tell me.

I guess I can see why your double standard is easy to practice when Colson gives you a good book review on his website. Congrats, bro.
